Patriots shoot for region title

The season is in full swing for the Sandy Creek Patriots and Lady Patriots basketball. Both teams are currently playing rivalry games in their region schedule. Future opponents include Troup County, Fayette County, Whitewater, Woodward, and Carrollton. So far, the boys are 3-0 and are first in the region, while the girls are 1-2 and are third in the region. Both the teams are looking to finish in the first two seeds in the region.

The boys assistant coach, Tim Bickerstaff, is hoping to become first in region and make it all the way to the state championship game. After losing 63-46 to St. Pius last year in the first round of playoffs, the Patriots are looking forward to bounce back from the loss. Bickerstaff says that he “likes the way the boys are playing in the region so far because they’re finding ways to win even if they’re winning or losing.” In order for the guys to finish first in region and win state the one thing they have to do is “have a little more toughness on defense,” according to Bickerstaff.

Head coach of the Lady Patriots, Shon Dodson, is really looking forward to a second place spot in the region. He said, ”Well, I expected to finish in the top three in our region so the loss to Fayette was disappointing. The girls are still settling into my offense but we should do fine”.

Both the boys and girls will close out their regular schedule the first week of February before heading into the region tournament.
