SC students travel to see “Disgraced”

On Thursday, February 11th, U.S. History and American Literature classes took a field trip to see a play called Disgraced at the Alliance Theatre in midtown Atlanta. The students were divided into 5 groups for the bus and left a little before 9:00a.m.. The ride over to the theatre took about an hour and a half; it took longer to get there because there was traffic in the city (nothing new about that, right?). Students arrived at the Alliance Theatre at 10:45 a.m., fifteen minutes before the play began. Then, after students set their phones on airplane mode, the play began. Disgraced is a play about a Muslim who doesn’t do traditional Muslim practice deals with the racist thoughts of society. As the play progresses, his wife, Emily who is American, helps him embrace his Muslim side, but he doesn’t want to. The play was very powerful because the actors played their parts on the point, the plot directly tells the message, and the setting was easy to understand when each scene was. After the play, students had a five-second lunch before boarding the busses heading back to the school. Students returned at 1:40 p.m., 15 minutes before the end of 5th period.
